Hi there
Just joined the group and thought I'd introduce myself. I'm an old timer who enjoys cycling and have just got off my road bikes, a Giant Defy Pro Di2 and a Whyte Wessex Di2 , and have my first e bike. This being a Giant Entour E+1. I was not convinced at first that my decision to go electric was right, but after completing around 5,000 miles on it I know I made the right decision so much so that I've just bought a Kalkhoff Endeavour 7B Advance with belt drive and Enviolo hub gears and am awaiting delivery in June 2021 from David Mellor cycles in Shrewsbury. The bike looks great and is being fitted with a dropper post which I love. I have one on the Entour and, at my age, would not ride without one.
My reason for getting off the road bikes was simple. I went out for a ride one morning and every where I went it felt like I was riding into a head wind. I enjoy my daily ride and, for me to continue, I needed assistance. An electrically aided machine seemed like the obvious way forward. They are heavy but the "eco" setting appears to get over that problem leaving me with a further 4 assistance levels when needed. On a 500w/hr battery I have managed to get 75 miles from one charge without the need to go "ape" and either push or pedal un-assisted to get home. I think the gearing on the Entour is sufficiently low to allow un-assisted pedalling but for how long I do not intend finding out. One change I did make to the Entour was to have a decent set of gears fitted. After being used to Di2 gears the use of the standard set on the bike was just unacceptable. A Shimano Deore set with 10 rather than the original 9 speed cassette was substituted and work admirably.
Well that's me other than to say I live in Mid Wales where the scenery and riding conditions are just about perfect . I am looking forward to getting involved in some threads in the future.
Happy riding to all of you.
