New build Carrera Kracken conversion.

Here are a couple of photo's of my new build which I have had a lot of help from D8veh.

I am waiting for some parts, but as you can see it is starting to take shape.

This is going to be a really good hill climber, and extremely stealthy.

The rack was made using some round aluminium rod which we have molded into the shape that was required. There is a piece of ply wood which also bolts the bag to the rack.

The controller will be based outside to allow the air to keep it cool. It will also be color coded to match the bike.

On the handle bars will only be a thumb throttle without LED's as again this will keep the look of the build stealthy. No need to know amp hours as it will have a 20 ah battery.

The motor will be the black 500 W Bafang CST motor.

The controller will be a 30 amp KU 123

Looks like a front-wheel-drive? I'd be interested to know how it behaves itself with all that grunt on the front.

My kraken just has the 250w 8fun front-wheel kit & it was skipping about on the wet gravelly trail yesterday:
So much so, I had to stand up on one upslope to get some weight forward - Most undignified in one of late middle-age

I reckon the kraken is a nice ride - keep the updates coming.

Hi jackhandy, it will be a rear set up once I fit the rear hub in the original wheel. This will look nice as both wheels will be identical rims. Iv'e not rode it at all yet, just wanted to start the build.

Good work Steve, it's always nice to see conversion projects posted with photos of work in progress.. got to post some myself shortly! Looks like that bike will belt along when its done, look forward to seeing your first test ride report I'm curious, why did you decide to build your own rack, was there nothing available suitable ready made?

Hi morphix, the main advantage doing it this way was to keep the weight as low as I could. Also it is lighter than a rack, and very robust. Also I needed the ply wood as this is the way D8veh & myself fix the bag on.It is better that using straps to hold it in place.

I am just waiting for my 500 W Bafang CST motor to arrive, then it will be fitted into my original wheel. Also I am so pleased with the controller set up with hard wiring straight from the one main cable from the wheel. Many thanks to my best friend for doing all this work for me on my bike to get it all done. Thanks D8veh. I will put more photo's on once I have got the original white wheel back in place.

I went out for a ride yesterday and I must say I was really pleased with the overall handling of my bike. The brakes were perfect. The only thing I may require is a stem riser as I am over 6 ft tall and slightly leaning on my wrists. I still cannot believe how it has all turned out.

The football bag is great for the 20 ah battery & controller.I felt the controller and it did not get hot at all, just luke warm.

Due to having lights which total 33000 Lumens, I was able to ride into the dark of night. The one attached on my helmet did come loose though, so I had to stop and tape it on. When at the local pub for light refreshments, people were really impressed with them, even to the point of stating that they could see me on the approach which has a mile long straight. One of the guys said it was like a light aircraft landing, so I guess if I see a car on a side road I will feel more at ease.

My new Bafang CST motor came today and my best mate buit it into a rim for me. I was hoping to use the original white rim to match the front one, but it only had 32 spokes so I had to have a black one or wait. Now that it's done I think it looks better in black. The motor has let me have my cassette back with 9 speeds. The changing is very slick with the Sram changers.

I had a chance for a quick ride and it's awesome. The 500w motor has plenty of power to get up steep hills without pedalling if I want and seems to go about 24mph. No speedo to check the speed at the moment but its much faster than it was before. Its everything that I hoped. It's very light and stealthy. It can go as far as I want, as fast as I want and climbs anything. I'm happy. Where else can you get a bike with all the power you want, hydraulic brakes, hydraulic forks, 20aH battery, cassette gears, decent lights, mudguards and alarm for less than £650?

You can go longer (130mm) I find I need these to bring my old back up straight enough to be comfortable

hi,thinking of getting a cst.my front wheel motor got me twice last week on the ice.
can i ask which speed motor did you order,end up with.and from where.cost!.
also are you running it on 36v or 48 v.for estimated 24 mph
