what people want from an electric bike has perhaps previously been missjudged, cytronex has seen a lot of interest on their sub £1000 bikes, i think that looking as much like a normal bike as possible, with a small hub motor and battery looking like a water bottle,it is top of many peoples wish list, at £1000 and above a motor scooter would have much more power, keeping below this price could be the key to extra sales, it also keeps it within the cycle to work scheme.

True, but an electric bike has advantages over a motor scooter:
-- No tax, insurance, fuel to buy
-- Can go places motor vehicles aren't allowed
-- Rider can get exercise, as much as they choose
-- Quiet!

I don't deny your original argument, that a price tag under £1000 is more likely to get people into power-assisted biking. But once you've tried it, you realise that a motorised bike is a different species of vehicle from anything petrol-driven.

Although i ride a panasonic powered electric bike for exercise,a lot of people buy electric bikes to avoid pedalling as much as possible, and some want throttles and bikes capable of 22mph on the flat without pedalling at all,at present most electric bikes are somewhat limited, the fastest electric bikes are not very good hillclimbers, the best hillclimbers are rather slow on the flat, with prices often above £1200 often the bikes still look obviously like electric bikes, and can be unreliable.
