Wow, those are some heavy tires, ~1200g/tyre. But if they work, I guess they are worth the extra weight.
On even the most modest powered electric bikes, you will not notice the extra weight unless riding unpowered.

A lot of forum members use these, especially the road tread version.

I can't seem to source the new MTB version yet. Probably haven't been released to retailers yet.

When I do find some, I'll be upgrading from Schwalbe Land Cruisers, which are a good tyre, but have limited offf road ability. Will post a small review on their abilities, when I finally manage to to obtain some.

For anyone interested, I contacted Schwalbe UK about the new Marathon Plus MTB and received this reply:

" Thank you for contacting Schwalbe UK.

The 2016 range was unveiled to the cycle trade last week and is now visible to see on our website however stocks of some of the new 2016 lines are not as yet available to purchase.

The new MTB plus is anticipated in the UK slightly later this year around early November time "

Might be lucky and be able to purchase from German retailers slightly earlier than this :)

They will probably make a good bridleway tyre for autumn use, after the hedges have been cut. So could be a winner in that respect, and could prove to be a very wise purchase. Lets hope so. :)

It doesn't say if they are tubeless compatible though, and I suspect that as they have indicated that the centre compound is for hard tracks, you could end up on your backside when it comes to wet roots or slippery rock.

Funny that you should ask that, I have just transferred some money for these.http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/how-many-people-are-using-there-e-bike-off-road.15780/page-47#post-275609 Then scroll down two posts. :)

Don't be influenced by my choice. Everything is a compromise, and I do believe that those tyres that you have lined to, will make a very good tyre.
Remembering back to when I carried out the review on the KTM Cross, it had normal Marathons on, and even they were surprisingly good, given that they were a road tyre. Look at how the are placed within the tyre market, they are the tyre of choice for all round road use, so who knows, the mtb tyre could follow suit. :)

Hi I am new to the site and ride a Haibike sDuro HardSeven SL 2015 YamahaI. I have owned the bike since March and have so far ridden 1600 miles on a mainly off road route of between 12 and 14 miles to work and then a hilly 10 mile B Road return route. I fitted some Schwalbe Smart Sam plus puncture resistant tyres and slime filled tubes straight away to avoid as many punctures as possible, as a puncture when you have to be at work is no fun.

So far I have not had one puncture. Over half my mileage is off road with all the hazards you meet there so I strongly recommend them. I have found enough grip off road and due to their strong construction they are a very fast running road tyre for commuting and very hard wearing.

I got my 650b marathon plus tyres (March 2015 model) on my sduro Yamaha fitted from new from Martin at ebikeshop in Farnham who I live close to but does a lot of mail order business.

On my 26'' befang hub bike I used Specialised Crossroads Armadillo Tyres and found them really good, hard wearing, fast rolling on the road and much better than they had any right to be off road and no punctures in 6000 miles with 50% ish off road if you want a no puncture alternative tyre.

I bought the marathon plus tour but haven't fitted them yet. Need the extra load potential for carrying a child

Bike Discount in the Fatherland has them.

I've bought several tyres from Bike Discount recently, all in stock if they say so and as described.

Excellent link. Good price too.

Two questions Rob. How long does delivery take?

I recently suffered a puncture on my rear Schwalbe Land Cruiser. Impatient to get out and about again, I bought a new Land Cruiser Plus with improved puncture resistance to get me going again.

I got the puncture on the route that runs along the Wear, towards Roker beach.
There appears to be a lot of broken, razor sharp, shells on the pathway. So is it the seagulls dropping them, or some other reason why there are so many scattered on the ground?

My experience with Bike Discount is the same as Eddie's - the goods turn up when they say or a day or two earlier.

I always have my orders sent to my local bike shop, very handy because it saves me being in to receive them.

The path you speak of runs under Wearmouth Bridge.

That stretch has always been known for general skulduggery because it's isolated, but close to where the yobbos hang out in the town centre.

My guess is your punctures are from smashed beer and vodka bottles.

Just the type of puncture the Marathon Pluses will resist.

Land Cruisers are great value, but the protection isn't there, and I reckon they are a bit lightweight for ebiking.

Land Cruiser Pluses should be better, but the level 6 protection Marathons must be best of all.

Yeah, I guess you're right Rob. When I stopped, I spotted a few broken shells, but that was probably a coincidence. There's a few areas along the CTC, where the mischievous scoundrels smash bottles in the middle of the path.

Why they do this is beyond me, but two new Marathon Pluses will be my little treat at the end of the month.

The Land Cruisers won't go to waste though, they can go on my 'trip to the shops' pedal bike :)
