November 13, 20187 yr Early 20's gamer grandson with stage one moobs wants to try cycling but wont, so i suspect he is to embarrassed to try in case he looks foolish on the hills. His dad thinks an emtb might get him into it and Halfords seems the most logical place to get a cheap emtb except for the cutouts well documented in other threads. I havnt read of any lately so does that mean the problem is fixed?

November 13, 20187 yr Isnt that the one that was cutting out a lot? Yes, the Crossfire is the one that cuts out. The Crossfuse model with the Bosch unit is ok, but more expensive of course. .
November 13, 20187 yr Take the tv control off him He will have to get off his backside then to change channel That will help ease him in

November 13, 20187 yr Build a ebike by adding kit. The project would be a good father son experience, would also show him how to maintain bike.

November 13, 20187 yr Author are you anywhere near All Terrain cycles Shipley? They have a good selection in ....I do actually but it isn't about me.. not in a position to go looking at the mo and was hoping halfords had sorted out the cutouts on their cheaper bike.
November 13, 20187 yr Author Conveniently they have an old hybrid road bike that could be a donor bike so have made the conversion sugestion, although I think they would be better buying a decent MTB raher than spend money on a bike that needs new gears cranks and brakes so is essentialy scrap.
November 13, 20187 yr Second hand maybe ? Or one which has the same battery as your's so when he gives it up you can salvage the battery ??? Just a thought
November 14, 20187 yr Author Second hand maybe ? Or one which has the same battery as your's so when he gives it up you can salvage the battery ??? Just a thoughtNice idea but new bike, when it eventually arives, will have 2 power tubes ....
November 14, 20187 yr i suspect he is to embarrassed to try in case he looks foolish on the hills. Will he be okay with the "cheating" accusations he's likely to suffer, it would be a shame if it stopped him using the bike. Dave.
November 14, 20187 yr Author Will he be okay with the "cheating" accusations he's likely to suffer, it would be a shame if it stopped him using the bike. Dave.Situation is that he is a really nice lad, has a job and goes to work every day but doesn't do any excersize. He is aware this needs to change and i get the impression he wants to change so we (me and his dad) are looking at ways to get him interested. His dad it very fit and active so he won't engage there but says he will do the park runs if i will and may come cycling with me (borrowing one of his dad's bikes) but it's hilly here so that won't work which got us wondering if buying him an ebike would do the trick. I rarely buy cheap or used but cost is a big issue, hence the halfords inclusion as they seem to be reasonable bikes for the money as long as the cutouts issue has been fixed. Unfortunately I am unavailable for the park runs due to a more pressing family commitment, and cos it's winter the cycling is a more forward looking project.
