Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum and am looking to buy an ebike ASAP. My budget is not more than £1400. I need it for commuting and leisure (about 30 miles per day), and would prefer one with a throttle. I have tried the Freego Hawk (a bit heavy but under consideration), 3e electric sports (not sure of its quality), Kudos Eiger - which I liked but not sure of the battery life, A2B Ferber (didn't like much); and I would like to try the Juicybike sports but no dealer new me in London, the ezee sprint 8, and any other recommendation .

Can you advise on which bike is the best to go for my needs.

Thanks

30 miles a day is heavy commuting in and out of congested London. You'll need 15AH battery for the range and high gear ratio to let you pedal fast. Your £1400 budget limits you to Chinese bikes. I'd say best to go for a conversion of something like the Genesis Croix de Fer with a Woosh BPM front wheel kit, but if you want to buy ready made, Woosh Sirocco CD/CDL would probably be your best fit, it has the highest gear ratio of the ready made bikes.

At this price, Batribikes might also be worth a look. They have various dealers in London. What didn't you like about the Ferber? - I would have expected it to be one of the better bikes from your list.

Mawasola....when you say you want to commute 30 miles per day....do you mean 15 miles to work, then 15 miles home, with possibility of recharging at work?
I am surprised you would pick the Kudos Eiger as a ride to work bike, you would select the Eiger more as a leisure bike or shortish journey bike and in particular if you liked the Nuvinci hub.
For commuting I would recommend the Kudos Tourer,if you like hub gears it can be supplied with the 8 speed Nexus hub if you don't like derailleur. The Nexus hub model Kudos Tourer is priced at £995.00,it is a very comfortable bike to ride longish distances and comes with mudguards, lights and road tyres.
The battery life on all the Kudos performance models including the Eiger is likely to be 3-4 years, this is in line with most of the lighter weight lithium batteries, including Lithium Manganese,Lithium Ion,Lithium Polymer, these are the most popular battery types used in e-bikes. The Tourer uses a lithium iron phosphate battery, these batteries were originally developed for weather stations, their life may be 10 years, some have been going strong in weather stations 20 years old,the original sales of Kudos bikes are now 4 years old, there must be many Kudos owners on this forum who's bikes with LiMnO4 batteries are still performing well.
The problem with Lithium Iron Phosphate is it is heavy,so not appropriate for use on the performance series of bikes, where lightweight is a priority.
Our principal London dealer is the London Electric Bike Company at Hampton Wick (near Kingston on Thames),they have both models of Kudos Tourer.
Throttles reduce range considerably in my experience.
Hope that helps

Hi Mawosola,

Most of the range of eZee bikes are within your budget and for £1395 the Torq Mk3, Forza Mk2 and Sprint 8 come with a 15ah battery with Sony 18650 cells as standard, there is also the option of increasing the capacity to 21Ah for increased range, but this would push the price over your limit.

You could of course have the 21Ah battery on our entry level Sprint Primo and stay well within budget.

We are based in Milton Keynes which is just 35 minutes from London Euston by train and can meet customers who wish to come for a test ride at the station .
