They say "prototype" I say mackled up in a shed out of a e-bike and scrap metal by someone with a new welder and nothing better to do

As you say, it could be done at home, but why would you  When suntour ncx seat posts are lovely and smooth:) And won't snap your frame.

I suspect full suspension would be easier and a lot safer.o_O
Try before you buy! If you going to be doing mostly rugged trail riding, the full sus will be great. On cycle paths and roads you will find that the bike will, what I call, pedal float. The bike will bounce up and down to the rythym of your pedal stroke. Most annoying as I have used a full sus in both types of conditions.

There are full sus bike that have either a decent shock with good dampening or a lock out that will turn your full sus into a hard tail. Some bikes have both. This will minimize or eliminate the problem. This is pricey in build cost and translate into the purchase price.

I agree with gringo that a good suspension seat post with work quite nicely combined with a good seat.
