I've long thought these a good idea and wish one was installed each side the one very steep hill that prevents people in my very large (130,000 +) residential area commuting into Croydon by bike.

Though I think it wouldn't take long for kids to twig they could mount low tow loops on soap-box buggies etc to get towed uphill so they could swoop down again at speed, making a great new game! Or even just use it with pavement scooters in a similar way to bikes.

There's a little bit of a knack to using this by the look of the video.

I believe if you slip off the choc half way up, you cannot get another one, so it's then either push the rest of the way, or freewheel back to the bottom to start again.

Decent idea, I expect there are a lot of areas as flecc describes where there is one nasty hill that puts people of cycling.

Saw this in Trondheim. It is on a hill around/going up to the university area. Of course all the students didn't seem to want to use it i assume it dented their street cred.;)

Looks like you could do the splits quite easily with that. Like getting on a boat clumsily. It seems to be a steep hill though. He said 10 to 14 degrees so about 24 percent at its steepest.

I bet council legal departments here would have fits if one was proposed on their patch. Anyone remember those open constantly moving lifts the big stores had in the sixties? They didn't survive to more safety conscious times.

Use to daily use the paternoster lift during my apprenticeship with GEC. Our lift famously appeared in the "Prisoner" as the film studios were located just down the road.
