Mystery white wire from rear motor hub

I discovered a stray, unconnected white wire from the motor hub on my Batribike Breeze. The wire was loose in the controller compartment behind the pedal crank. The wire has what looks to be a broken connector or tag crimped on the end, but there are no missing connections on the controller that I can see.
Any clues as to what it's for?

It's from the speed sensor in the motor.

Aha, so does this mean that someone has de-restricted it in the past? Any ideas what it should be connected to?

If your bike has no LCD display with speed indicator, then the sensor is not used.

Thanks for the clarification
It has an LCD display for the battery level but no speedo / speed indicator. Presumably the speed limit is somehow sensed by the controller?

It doesn't do anything other than give a signal for the speed display. Without a speed display, it has no effect on speed or de-restriction. When that wire isn't connected, the controller gets the speed from the timing hall sensors.
