Just picked up my own ebike today.

Giant twist express rs2. Was listed on ebay as not charging after being stored for 2 years in his shed.

I was expecting the battery to be scrap after being stored for so long however when I got it home it turned on fine.

I checked the pack and it was at 26.2v. I plugged the charger in and it was dead.

I opened the charger up and found the 2.5a glass fuse had blown. I replaced the fuse but it blew again instantly.

After checking some components I found a mosfet is shorted out on all 3 legs.

I've ordered the mosfet and once it arrives hopefully I'll be able to charge the pack up and see how it runs when charged.

Ive noticed the chargers are quite expensive and they use 4 cables instead of 2 does anyone have any idea what the 4 cables do on these bikes.
ive noticed the 2 outer pins on the pack are at 26v the same as the pack if I used a generic charger and connected to these pins I could probably charge the pack but I'm not sure the bms will work correctly.

Has anyone ever upgraded one of these bikes I think in the future I'll make a 36v pack for it and change the controller but hopefully keep the hub.

First things first though I will try to repair the charger

Four wires indicate a CANbus type handshaking going on which means use of generic basic chargers can't be used as the communications between controller and battery BMS are not the same.

Hopefully the charger will work once the mosfet has been replaced, if not could probably fit a 7s bms and then use a generic
charger. The battery pack only has a 2 pin output so seems normal. I've checked around and the cheapest I can find a standard charger is 70 euros from holland, I dont think its worth spending that until I know if the battery is any good.

Does anyone know how the pas system works on the bike I carnt see a crank sensor and if I turn the bike upside down and pedal it the front hub doesn't respond however if I hold the bike in the air the right way up and pedal the front hub starts turning. Does it use a torque sensor?

Probably a TS look for a controller PAS connector, TS will be four wires.

The hub motor utilises a funky doo-dah axle motor connection.
What is the hub brand ?
Panasonic ?

Its a Sanyo. It also says rabbit tools usa in the side. I've found out that it is a torque sensor. There is a self test you can do with the handlebar controller that allows you to test the hall sensors and torque sensor

The more pressure you put on the pedal the more leds light up on the battery display while in test mode

I've took some more photos today. The hub connectors are there as are the controller connectors. It looks like the torque sensor on this bike uses 3 wires and it's on the cassette side of the rear drop out.

The controller looks like it only uses 5 wires for the sensors from the front hub and there is a spare 2 way connector from the controller maybe from brake switches.

Is there any aftermarket controllers that could utilise the 3 wire torque sensor?
