Well that's it..maybe not..I've had a quick ride around the block and found the throttle assist..well it's ok ish..power assist mode this 250w bbs01b has 5 levels of assist they seem pretty good..I've never used an electric bike before so this is all new to me.. The power assist is a bit weird as it works harder when I'm slightly pedal off if that makes any sense. Maybe I need to spend some time setting it up. Should I charge my new battery to the max as I haven't charged it at all yet and it's showing 50%..also noticed the gears are a bit clunky even with the gear shift sensor and at one point the chain came off..possibly may need a new chain..other than that I'm very happy with it so far...image.jpegimage.jpeg

You'll find that the 'Keep Current' level in the controller software can cause this. When the motor gets up to speed, the software limits the current available to the motor, by the percentage set in the controller software.
This can have a weird negative effect of giving less power, when the rider really needs more power, like on hills. I think Bafang programmed it this way, as a form of eco measure. Doesn't really work too well in hilly UK though.

It's usually set low at the factory and will require a programming cable to tweak the controller software, as it can't be done via the display.

The chain comes off because of the incorrect chain-line. A new chain will be worse. Instead, you need a guide at the top of the chain-wheel to guide it on. You can use a front derailleur for that or there are various bolt on chainguides.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.Xchain+guide.TRS0&_nkw=chain+guide&_sacat=0
Thanks d8veh.
I did have the old front derailleur on there but the chain was rubbing against it even at its mos outer setting..so I think it's going tobe a chain guide..
And yes there is a big deviation in the chain when it's on the biggest cog. I wonder if I can space out the rear cassette..
Regards
Jim

You can't really add spacers to the cassette because it would make your axle wider on one side. Whatever the guide you use, there would be some rubbing because it needs to push the chain from one side to change its angle to the chain wheel. An old chain bends better, so the problem will eventually go away.

Hi Jim
so it done the power the delivery takes some getting used to, you can adjust the power levels to 9 on the display . The front chain ring is easy to space outwards but the only way to adjust inwards is a spacer on the bb on the other side
bling ring did not help on mine just several trial and error spacer refits

Hi. Mate
Yer it's a bit weird the power I have studied the configuration of the software now so I will have a go and do some adjustments in there.. I'm about to purchase a chain guide as my front derailleur did not expand that far over the chain so I removed it.. Only had the chain come off once thou so I don't think that's bad for its first outing..

Don't change gear on bumpy sections! My chain line is pretty bad in bottom gear too on the big ring and if I change on a rough bit it changes down to the little ring on its own...

Thanks for the advice. I have just ordered a dog fang chain guide so it might help with the chain coming off the chain ring..hopefully.lol
