HI all, just posting a link to a few pics showing the conversion of a Moulton APB to ebike for anyone who is interested.
Firstly a big thank you to the 'Top Man' Jerry Simon who did all the work and claimed he enjoyed the project.!!!!!! he even serviced and cleaned up the bike....it now looks like new......
The result is a stealth machine weighing in at only 16 kg. The Moulton APB (all purpose bike !) has full suspension and rides like a dream. The smaller wheels now with front motor, take on steep hills in a superior way to 26 inch wheel bikes and the minimal weight of the conversion means the bike still performs like a regular bike when motor not in use.
Thanks again Jerry........great job.........

here is the link........ enjoy

That's very nicely done.
I bet it will be a lovely ride.
Is it a Tongxin?

Thanks dmcgoldrick. I hope you enjoy the bike as much as I did converting it for you.

Although I am not sure I would want to do conversions full time, in your case because you wanted a Moulton/small wheeled bike doing with a portable light/silent set up it fell right into my area of expertise. I am also a bit of a Moulton buff :D

It will be interesting to see how the small battery performs in your more hillier area compared to Cambridge. I get 8-10 miles and I am hoping that it will be sufficient for your more hillier three mile round commute. For light setups, I really am of the opinion it is only neccessary to carry the appropriate weight battery wise.

For those interested the battery is based around the very safe/reliable/robust A123 2.3AH cells. They can take a lot of abuse. Here again is my DIY thread. I usually build the packs loose in a 2 * 6s1p config with a fuse and deans connectors, but where I do them for others tend to put them in a sealed container (lunch box) with more robust speakon two pole connectors.

This battery is probably for more niche (short journey) applications or would make a good backup for those with larger batteries who want a spare for emergencies. They are pretty cheap (cheaper if you have a source for s/h Bosch drill power packs) to make and once balanced can be charged using a cheap 36v, three stage charger.

This battery with the Tongxin are perfect for light wieght/portable ebike projects

Regards

Jerry
