Motor Kits

Can anyone give a quick precis as to the current state of play for ebike kits please? I've been away from the forum for a while and am not 'up to speed' on this subject. I sold my ebike sometime back and am considering converting my regular cycle. Ideally I'd like to make the machine easily swapped between regular and ebike, and use off-the-shelf batteries for its powerpack. I'd probably have to fabricate this myself. Range would not be an issue, the (very) occasional helping shove up a hill is more important.
