more details on the Shimano STEPS system

We're pretty pleased to be one of the small number of brands offering the STEPS system on our 2015 bikes.

We had one at the NEC at the weekend and its a very neat looking system.

Lots of information has just been released by Shimano, so those of you interested in this new system might want to have a read.

Yes, it is definitely a good move for everyone we think.

They are pushing it hard to all the cycle shops.... ie pretty much every cycle shop in the UK. Bike shops generally trust Shimano, so it could see eBikes in a lot more shops.

Prices are pretty much a bit cheaper than Bosch. Our Shimano drive bikes start from £1599, which is £100 cheaper than the equivalent Bosch bikes.

Shimano have electronic gears already and their numbers for those are on the conservative side, they don't tend to exaggerate, but of course the proof is in the pudding.

Shimano first launched the STEPs (Shimano Total Electric Power System) project in 2010, so this is essentially the 2nd version, but its a big step forward.

Yes, it is their second STEPS system. The level of gear change integration now is impressive, even including automatic change down when stopped, and it's a very neat installation indeed.

I really hope it's successful and see no reason why it shouldn't be, given the moderate prices.

That query would probably get the typically Japanese response, "Our systems do not fail".

Seriously, with Shimano's cycling experience I guess they've thought of that and made it low gear.

No use at all to me.
Today, at the end of a 5 mile ride, I had to ascend first a mile of gentle slope followed by a steep hill and then another gentle slope.
My Whoosh Gale handled it all superbly. Except for the steep hill, whenever my old legs were tired, I just throttled along.
