hi, hoping for a bit of help here. I am trying to order the throttle mechanism for a PowaByke. I do not know the model or the year. How do I find out which model it is please? Thanks in advance.

Looks like a Sakura shopper model.

It's Powabyke Shopper model, but not the latest lithium battery model which was branded E100 on the battery box. Yours will have three 12 volt SLA batteries

Sakura were similar but are a different make from Powabyke.

Why do you want a throttle? Your bike has a special one, which you'll have a lot of trouble to get hold of, so probably better to repair it if faulty?

Thank you for your reply. The plastic parts inside the throttle control (handlebar grip) are broken and the wiring is worn through.

That's a shame. Any throttle will work, but it'll work backwards so you have to fully twist it to stop the motor. You can solve that by reversing the magnets inside, but some throttles are very difficult to dismantle. The thumb throttles are easiest to open.

Another option is to use a rh thumb throttle on the left side. Take the spring out and use an elastic band around the lever as a spring. One of these:

Whatever non-Powabyke throttle you get, you'll have to do some modification to it and some wiring.

Thank you for your advice. My throttle has 6 wires, the thumb throttle only has 3 . Will it still work? I realise I will have to make a wiring mod.

The actual throttle only uses three wires. The other wires are for other functions. One wire carries battery voltage and is used to work the indicator lights. I heard that early Powabykes had some special safety feature, so had two grounds, but I've never studied one in detail. We got close one time when a guy posted a picture of the PCB, but it was so blurred, it was completely useless. All I can suggest is that you pull everything out of the plastic leaving all the wires attached, and show decent photos.

As far as I can see, 5 wires go to the PCB, but I can't see the actual sensor that normally sits in a slot like in this photo. Be careful when you extract everything to try and keep the wires on:

A guy started another thread about his replacement Powabyke throttle working backwards. I asked him to come here and explain how he wired it. All you have do then is decide whether you're going to reverse the magnets or use a springless RH throttle on the left side.

I read that. If I went for that I think I would fabricate a mounting for it to fit under the handlebar grip so that it still pushes forward to accelarate. If he can explain the wiring it would be great. Just want to make sure I get the right part ordered.

Thank you very much for putting me onto this chat. Right!!!! Now it makes sense, my bike has 6wires but the throttle only has 3, red black and white I’ve wired the red to red black to black and green to white, now the problem I have as you just stated is that my throttle is a sealed unit and can be taken apart! So am I right in saying I need to try and take it apart and swap the magnets over on the throttle? I will try this in the morning and update with pictures! Mine is exactly the same as the one above and it looks identical and I think it’s the same bike. Thank you all very much

Can’t be taken apart’
All throttles can be taken apart, but some are very hard because the retaining barbs are right up the inside and you have to lift all three at once. Sometimes if you pull hard enough, they pop apart, but you need a good grip. Thumb throttles are easier because the barbs are accessible.

You have a north facing magnet at one end and a south at the other end. You just have to swap them either by flipping the magnets or swapping without flipping.

Sooo, just tried to take the throttle apart and it all snapped and broke apart, arghhhhhh! Well I’ve still got 2 to break so might try another one. Is there any videos on how to take them apart or is it just possible to buy a proper powabyke throttle that I can just wire up and go? Thank you everyone

Which one is it? There are hundreds of different ones.
