Yep, a good clean with isopropyl and a final finger (covered in plastic bag) applied seal around with the silicone was my plan, just haven't got around to doing it yet. The compression by bolts of the Bafang gasket is substantial anyway, and has so far withstood complete immersion in a large puddle after a sudden thunderstorm for over 10 seconds. I'd previously applied a very thin layer of household clear silicone to stick the rubber gasket to the motor casing, because otherwise it flops about uncontrollably when replacing the controller - it'll shrink in the heat, but it's a very thin layer so I'm not too worried, and will use the more heat-resistant silicone I've bought next time. The controller board within is completely coated in thick silicone (by the manufacturer), so waterproofing is already pretty good at the controller end.Might be an idea after the cover is fitted in place to run a bead of silicon around the outside of it and use a finger to force it into any gaps.
I say after as if you put a bead on, then screw down the cover, the silicon will be forced inside and might drip on something you don't want silicon dripping on.
@soundwave I've been meaning to ask - is that rust or grease? Is moisture getting in?View attachment 45971
not sure you can see it but there is a seal around the motors edge but it is very thin so when i put the cover back on i put grease around the edge and bolt it back down.
