Interesting.
On a note about water ingress, i wonder if there's any sort of sealant or gasket between the main body housing and the main access panel. Unless these two faces are extremely accurately ground, there's going to be areas where they don't meet and water can get in. I did see one gasket at the end of the vid, but i don't know if this is standard practice. I would hope so.

Mine is a Bosch CX performance, so i can attest to it being a bit whiny up, and a bit rattly down, but as stated by Rob, you get tuned in to what you're doing by concentration, so don't actually notice these noises.
All in all a nice to see test. Food for thought on what to buy next.

not sure you can see it but there is a seal around the motors edge but it is very thin so when i put the cover back on i put grease around the edge and bolt it back down.

Would grease just run off at high temperatures? The bbsxx have rubber gaskets... but I recently bought this, haven't used it yet. It's supposed to be good up to 200 degrees centigrade:

Might be an idea after the cover is fitted in place to run a bead of silicon around the outside of it and use a finger to force it into any gaps.
I say after as if you put a bead on, then screw down the cover, the silicon will be forced inside and might drip on something you don't want silicon dripping on.

Yep, a good clean with isopropyl and a final finger (covered in plastic bag) applied seal around with the silicone was my plan, just haven't got around to doing it yet. The compression by bolts of the Bafang gasket is substantial anyway, and has so far withstood complete immersion in a large puddle after a sudden thunderstorm for over 10 seconds. I'd previously applied a very thin layer of household clear silicone to stick the rubber gasket to the motor casing, because otherwise it flops about uncontrollably when replacing the controller - it'll shrink in the heat, but it's a very thin layer so I'm not too worried, and will use the more heat-resistant silicone I've bought next time. The controller board within is completely coated in thick silicone (by the manufacturer), so waterproofing is already pretty good at the controller end.
