I need to get a grip on myself. After yesterdays victory uphill over a younger cyclist I went out today for a relaxing ride down to the Helix in Falkirk. It's uphill to my home no matter what road I take so decided to try the Typhoon up a hill that I had done on my Tourer just to compare them. The hill in question has a set of traffic lights just after you join it, so I thought I'll stick to the pavement to save me getting stopped at these lights.
As I approached the hill I noticed that the were a couple of buses just pulling away followed by a few cars. As I rounded the corner to start the climb I had a brainwave, some might call it a stroke.
What if I raced the bus? Would I even manage to keep up? Well, as I started the climb the last car in the line was passing me. So, I did what every old fool my age does. I went for it, I passed the first car and caught the second. The hill was tightening by now and I'm giving it my best shot. I'm still gaining but not as quickly. The look on the car drivers face was nice. After what seemed like an eternity the hill slackened off and the bus managed to accelerate quicker than I could.
I was beaten but not defeated, I will return and next time.............
Strava shows the hill as being 12% at the steepest part and my lungs seemed to agree with it.
