luyuan - 4 years battery warranty

Featured Replies

Electric bicycle, luyuan is the largetest manufacturer in China, producing electric motorcycle, scooter

Just notice a news article from this chinese e-bike manufacture.

In this article, they mentioned that that battery would have 4 years warranty.

While this is fantastic of course, it's a little bit more then the warranty that usually being offered. Am I missing something here? Does someone know something about this MM-LI batteries?

be more sceptical

I would be quite sceptical here, no details whatsoever of what capacity step down do they allow, no technical details really too. IMHO still many manufacturers seriously exaggerates the performance of its products in order to put put them in the best possible light. Sadly later it's the consumer that ends up with big disappointment.

Best regards

I totally agree with this statement, it is sound advice. Not only do these wild claims lead to disappointment, ultimately they will damage the perception of ebikes in general.

The new Kalkhoff battery being a case in point. Launched with an explosion of hype about a 1000+ charge cycle life and having 60% of it's original capacity remaining after 5 year. There is even a graph, which has actually been coloured in, to illustrate the battery's magnificence. Unfortunately, as yet, there appears to be little in the way of an enhanced warranty to match the enhanced performance claims.

In this case it could be a reasonable claim Roni, but not relevant to our e-bikes.

Being a new Chinese design it's probably a lithium iron phosphate battery, a type which has an up to 10 year life capability according to application, similar being supplied with their BYD electric car and the Chevrolet Volt electric car, both with relief petrol engines for either range extension or on road charging and both with 10 year life specified and very long warranties.

As long as these batteries are not run to extremes of full or empty they have a 10 year potential life. The key is having a large enough battery to do that, easy on a car and to a lesser degree on a scooter.

Since that scooter battery is 64V 47AH it should be plenty large enough to be used in a long life mode. Our bikes simply can't carry a proportional size or anything like it so we are hard on our minimally sized batteries and this type is only likely to give up to 3 years when specified in a viable bike size.
