Lurch when power kicks in

I am looking a pedelecs. I test rode one for the first time. The one thing I did not like about it was that 1) the power kicks in a fraction of rotation after I increase the force on the pedals and 2) it lurches forward. The lurching forward feeling is likely the result of the force not being applied at the time the force on the pedal is applied. Potentially this can be dangerous, especially if you are applying force in a turn, I feel.

Is this the case with all pedelecs? The one I was testing was an iZip which used the TMM torque sensor setup. I reduced the power, but I still had the same reaction. I haven't tried a Bionx system, but does a Bionx have the same reaction or is it smoother.

A lot of bikes do that: However, it's easy to avoid if your bike has a throttle. Normally, the throttle over-rides the pedal sensor so that, if you open the throttle just a bit, you get just a bit of power. You get used to all that when you own the bike.
