I have a "classic style" Powabyke (picture of similar bike attached) which I purchased second hand about a year ago. The bilke is used daily for a 4 mile round trip which includes quite a steep hill. Latterly the rear mounted motor has become quite noisy although I have no loss of power and the bike's range is still good.

I have contacted 2 local Powabyke dealers and the consensus seems to be that ideally the hub needs dismantling and lubricating. However, one dealer mentioned that being a"mark 1" bike with a rear mounted motor the "alignment mark" may have now worn off making it an impossible task. The other dealer refused to touch it and advised that replacement of the hub was not even possible as spares for this bike were not now available.

Does anyone know if dismantling and lubricating such a mark 1 hub is a practical DIY proposition. If so, details of how this is done would be appreciated.

Alternatively I have seen a lubrication service advertised on Ebay. Has anyone any experience or feedback on this ?

For a basic service, Portswood Cycles in Southampton can look at your wheel, try hem on 02380 556470 and speak to Alan (big Al!).

Otherwise there are 2 dealers in the midlands that can collect you wheel and refurbish it.
