Hi all at the moment I’m riding my son in laws kona coiler getting fit whilst in lock down I’m 49 yrs old and love the mtb looks with front and rear suspension only thing that kills me is the seat lol , now at the moment I’m cycling daily around 6.5 miles with my mate and weekends with my wife now looking for my first electric bike that I could also use for work around 3 miles away obviously I’m not going to afford a decent entry level bike with my budget but been looking at crank driven bikes I’d like to buy something I can switch between normal riding and when I struggle with hills etc or getting tired I can flick the switch to turn into peddle free power . I’ve seen uk limit is only 15mph so id like something I can either upgrade later add on‘s or I can derestrict myself to get to around 25/30 mph I’d like it to be able to if I wanted to go off road but not essential any ideas or advise please many thanks from Buckinghamshire

Pedal free power is available with a moped, most ebikes that use a throttle requiring pedal first activity are in the main restricted to 25km/h by controller programming on 36 or 48v bikes. There is no restriction on how fast you can peddle above the cut off.

Tbh most of us have been there wanting 25 -30 mph but after a while you realise 20/22mph if needed is a better upper speed for battery life and a safer ride, drivers just don't compute cyclists riding at speed except for lycra's/mamil's.

Twice over the last three days (whilst cycling at 17/18mph) I have been left hooked or attempted left hooked by Morton's, one over took me and then cut across me turning left. The driver was an incompetent *anker.

Tonight another tried the same thing in DHL van and realised what a *unt he was being and stopped in the road knowing he hadn't enough time to turn with out taking me out (we were both heading towards Lidl car park, I had realised at the time (gut feeling) and had slowed and stopped behind him. I waved him through on the left because I simply don't trust drivers when on a bike esp at or near junctions.
He didn't stop in the Lidl car park as he saw me turn in as well, he turned around and drove straight out. Iprobably would have given him a bit of stick about his shite driving manoeuvre.

Currently the roads are very much less busy but it doesn't stop the bad drivers with their brains up their arses, the situation is made worse when traffic levels are normal.

Nice and full sus for £2k are mutually exclusive.

You will need to up the budget.

A quick look at the discounter Tredz produces this Giant at £3,500.

There may be something a bit cheaper elsewhere, but that's the sort of money you are looking at for an entry level full sus emtb.

today I’ve been and tried a peddle assist and throttle control mtb only front suspension, I’ve decided going for a throttle control mtb so looking for something I can get on the budget and possibly on finance
