A friend has secondhand Smarta bike (about 10 years old) which needs a replacement battery, the type that slides in behind the seat tube. I think this type of battery is often referred to as a 'Silver Fish' battery and is used on a wide variety of older ebikes. There are many such batteries available on ebay and Amazon but we want to ensure that the replacement is safe to use, ie has good quality battery cells, a battery management system to prevent over-charging etc. Can anyone recommend a reputable source for a replacement? NB We know the ebike works as we've tried a battery from another bike (aJorvik trike) and all is fine.

They're all much of a muchness. I wouldn't worry too much about the quality. Look at the supplier feedback and reviews.

You can get a bigger or smaller capacity one if you want.

Sometimes, they have different connector arrangements at the bottom. If you get one with the connecting bottom plate, you might be able to use it to replace the one on your bike if it doesn't fit. Another option is to remove the bottom plastic piece from your dead battery and swap it to the new one. It's just held on by 4 screws, and you have to join two wires.

Yosepower +1, ordered thru amazon.
Just need a new 20in motorwheel and kit to go with it, hehe :)
You have to check voltage, of course, which polarity the bike has the input pins, and socket or plug in . I believe there was a choice?
