Joined the site for a bit of expert advice. I am considering buying either a new bike or conversion for a small 8 mile round trip commute and it seemed that this was the best place to get info

You've certainly come to the right place for advice.
Where is your commute? Hilly? Flat? Roads? Tow-paths?
How tall are you and dare you say how fit?
I'm sure you'll be directed towards many different bikes, but the most important thing to do is try as many as you can (and then try one of ours ).
