Hi, can anyone recommend a bit of a budget bike, mid drive, 750w. For a 15 mile commute, fairly flat, a few of light hills. Im 6ft6 so it would need to be sturdy enough for a long seat post. I'd like to only spend around £800 as that was going to be the cost of my car insurance for the year, plus mot and tax was due ( so may be able to justify spending upto £1000 ) I enjoy the bike ride its just I can't manage to pedal every day. Im thinking an ebike would be a good replacement.

If you need to do the commute some days without pedalling, you would be better off with a petrol moped.

Faster, marginally safer, more usable in bad weather, and fully legal.

Using a 750w bike for occasional leisure rides is one thing, but I think you are asking for unwanted attention if you commute on one on the same route, every day.

Particularly if you are going to be bowling along without pedalling.

The legal 250 watt nominal bikes actually can putout over 500 watts.
A 15 mile commute can be done in under an hour.
50 mins yesterday for 15 miles for me. With BBS 01 kit as factory issued.
If you need to go much quicker then Honda will help but @ 30 mph with lights and junctions your going to take over 30 mins anyway.

You obviously know that 750 watts requires you to register as a light moped,it's not a bicycle.
Don't be persuaded that 750 watts is 3 times more torque than legal 250 watts,a 750 watt direct drive motor is actually slow to accelerate but quick once rolling,it may not be ideal for stop-start urban cycling, a geared motor is better and legal.
There are very powerful 750 watt and 1000 watt centre drive motors available now,the latter exhibits 160 Nm of torque, these are often used for sand racers in the USA,but the engineering is more akin to an off road motorbike than a bicycle....I suspect the range is very low unless you carry big capacity batteries,20 Ah plus.
