Finding my (electric) wheels

Hi all,

I'm ready to take the plunge and get my first ebike.... I think I've found the perfect one:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/cube-cross-hybrid-race-allroad-500-e-bike-2016/rp-prod141465 18" frame.

Problem is - totally unavailable.

I enjoying cycling, but am significantly on the wrong side of 40 and 100kg - and where I live is hilly/mountainous. I tried going out on my old full-suspension mtb last year but it was awful... half the energy went into the suspension (no lockout), plus it weighs over 30kg - and I could have walked up many of the hills faster. Solution (maybe) get a little assist for the big hills.

Complicating factor, I want to use the Cycle2Work scheme, plus I'm in Northern Ireland - so options are limited. Total budget around £2200.

Should I just wait, or are there comparable alternatives?

I'm also in N. Ireland, 65 years old and wanting to buy a bike for £2K+. Like you I weigh about 100kg. My brother works for Wincanton PLC who operate a cycle2work scheme. He is wanting to buy as well but is struggling to get information about his company's scheme.

In N. Ireland the choice of ebike is more limited than in the rest of the UK. Greenaer UK on the Moira Road, Lisburn, are worth investigating as they offer the excellent Haibilke range which have a few models in your price bracket, especially if you can get a cycle2work deal.

I've now done over 1000km on my Raleigh Motus and can highly recommend it. Bosch motor, hydraulic rim brakes, shimano dynamo lights are all excellent and the ride is excellent.

Thanks everyone. I emailed Greenaer this morning due to MRMAC9's reply. They have a small showroom in Lisburn, but a much bigger one in Dublin... Problem tho is Haibike is the only style I really like there - but they are 500-1000 more expensive for a similar bike :(

Thanks for the Bigbear link Ray. It certainly looks like a viable candidate. At least I wouldn't be out any extra on the cycle2work.

I popped into CRC on the way home and was encouraged to try a go on the Ghost Andasol Cross 7 - Medium size http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ghost-andasol-cross-7-e-bike-2016/rp-prod140283
It was good fun and was hitting top speed quickly without much effort - encouraging. It also confirmed my suspicions that I need an 19" frame, and anything larger is too big for me. I think I'd prefer the 27" wheels than the 29" on the Ghost.

The guy helping me was excellent - I suspect he was the local manager - tho I said I had my heart set on the first mentioned Cube Hybrid race allroad 500... I didn't want to spent £1900 and get less, step down from Diore, only 400WH battery, no lights, no mudguards, better tyres, etc.

Anyway, he took my details and said he'd try and find the bike I wanted and give me a call back in a couple of days. Fingers crossed.

The bigbear is a decent fallback.

Thank you all.

Just wanted to followup. Didn't want to post too soon.. counting chickens and all that.

Last month I received a phone call from CRC - they had sourced me the Cube :) Picked it up and it is sitting in my back room.
Beautiful bike. Can't wait to get out... now if it would only stop raining...
