Long-time Cyclist but new to e-bikes

Hello from the colonies, Fremantle, Western Australia in fact where once the convict ships docked. In a nice connection the house where I live was most likely built by convict labour. There you go a connection to the "old country" and well apparently my mum was born within the sounds of Bow Bells and hence was a Cockney. Feel like I am really a Pom :)

Anyway life has moved on and whilst I am a regular rider, time is catching up with me and I am no longer coping so well well with my regular commute to the office and home. This commute is 42 km each way along the west coast of Perth and whilst it is a beautiful ride, the return in the afternoon for a lot of the year is into the infamous Fremantle Doctor, a south-westerly wind which comes in straight off the ocean and at times is known to happily gust up to 50 km/h + until the moment I arrive at my front door when the Doctor seems to finish the visits for the day :)

So this has led me to the world of e-bikes and the possibility of e-assisting one of my recumbents, either my Bacchetta Giro ATT 20 or my LoGo P-38. Having spent some time on the chair in the shed this afternoon I may be going with the LoGo P-38 as I can easily switch the e-assist over later if I decide I want to keep it "normal." The downside to the Bacchetta is I really need to swap the front fork out to a steel one and swap the seat out to a Bacchetta Recurve seat to get a riding position I prefer. All of which is more cost.

The approach to e-assist I think I will take is a MAC kit from Paul at EM3V, probably a 350w or 500w kit with the controller or rather the Cycle Analyst bring it back close to legal (European standard here).

Anyway I will create a separate thread on the kit options. Just thought I would say g'day here first :)

Regards
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

A warm welcome to the forum from 'up over';)

Below is an example of a Bachetta with a 26" front wheel conversion.
Just incase you weren't aware eZee kits are available in 20", 26" and 700c front or rear configurations.

I'm not sure if there are any eZee dealers in WA, but there are quite a few in other parts of Aus, the importer is

Thanks John. I am aware of that conversion and it was one that gave me the idea for using a rack mounting for the battery. I did look at eZee kits but we don't have a dealer here in Western Australia plus the price compared to say an EM3EV MAC kit was not that competitive.
