Having just lived through a 72hour+ powercut I am looking at portable batteries, possibly self charging i.e. solar.
We were on the edge of loosing two freezers full of summer garden produce and a whole locally bought lamb. Juries still out as to whether anything is actually ruined.
As I suspect these type of events going to become more frequent I want to try to plug this hole in our ability to live on.
We were OK as we have a gas hob (on a bottle), oil gravity fed Rayburn heating hot water (no power required) and a log stove. So with various rechargeable lanps, candles and a makita powered radio we hunkered down.
Of course there was no internet, land line, or cell phone or shops. It was like an extended early 60's sunday afternoon !
Idealy I'm looking at a self contained battery/inverter to give me enough power to run two freezers for 4- 6 hours. With an ability to add extra batteries should they be needed. Solar, mains and possibly 12v charge, 'cos then we can take it camping or just drive around to charge it during prolonged power outages.
Any one been there, done that?
Loads of stuff available, but what's good quality? What's good value for money? What chemistry wouls be best?
Thanks in advance for any info.
