Two days ago, I found my favourite cordless hammer drill among my boxed-up belongings in a shed. I had searched for that drill previously and had come to believe that I had actually left it behind when I moved house last year. Needless to say, the 18V 2.4Ah Li-ion battery was dead and refused to accept any charge. When I put the meter on it, 7.8V showed but even after many attempts on the dedicated charger, I could not induce the battery to accept any power.
Curiously, the original Ni-Cad battery which I had stored in the same box actually powered the drill and charged up nicely. That's got enough power still to fill in for the time it takes to re-charge the Li-Ion battery. After a little deliberation, I decided to bite the bullet and purchase a new Li-ion battery so, having checked out and compared prices online, I placed my order yesterday afternoon.
Around 1900 hours, I received a text message informing me the package was about to be dispatched and was due to be delivered on the 17th unless I replied that date was unsuitable. The text provided other delivery dates from which I could choose.
This morning at 0730 hours, I received another text informing me that my package was due to arrive between 0730-0800 hours.
At 0734 hours, a courier duly delivered the package. After coffee, I checked the voltage and found it to be 18.6V on my meter. Nevertheless, I placed it on the charger and it was topped up very quickly.
Some of these companies who operate extensively online have really got the distance-selling business down to a fine art and in conjunction with the best courier firms, are providing superb service that not so long ago we could only dream of.
