Li-ion battery cutting out

Hi All,

I have an old 36v EcoBrand Harrier which used lead acid for power, I recently tried a 36V 13AH Lithium-ion battery pack (468 Watt hours) from another bike to check that the motor was still working and it ran it fine. However on putting the pack back into it's original bike (after fully charging again) the power cuts after only a few seconds and doesn't come back on until the key is turned off and then back on again, and if power is applied it cuts of again after a few seconds. I've obviously damaged the battery but can anyone tell me what has happened and is there any chance of fixing it?

The battery management system (BMS) or the controller is shutting it down. Are you sure it's properly charged? Charge it again just to make sure, then try it again. next possibility is that it's not making good contact, so that it can't give the current that the controller demands, so the controller thinks that it's flat and switches off. Less likely because it was ok before, but if there's a short circuit somewhere that causes to much current to be drawn from the battery, the BMS will shut it down. Don't worry, there shouldn't be anything wrong with it that can't be fixed.

Is it possible that the lead acid controller drew too much current and confused the BMS? The charger says the battery is fully charged so can't charge it more, but I was thinking of draining the power on the lead acid bike and charging the battery once fully depleted, do you think that could rectify it?

Quick update to help anyone else having this problem, I opened the battery casing and checked the wires behind the key switch and the wires behind the the power out, either the wires were making a poor connection or the key switch is on it's way out as when I put the casing back together, the battery is working again. I'm guessing it will be just a matter of time until I go over a bump and the connection is lost again, but at least I know where the problem lies.
