Depends where you ride though. Some of the road i commute on are worse than offroad parts. There's also big car / lorries and pedestrians to avoid.

Difference is If I hit them I'll probably die.

I was thinking about whether it's good or not to wear a cycle helmet and then I had a brainwave: I was thinking that if you go slower, there's not such a chance of injury, so could we change the debate to: should we condemn all those that ride bikes above 15mph?

Anything over 15mph and you need a helmet.

It may all depend how fast the bike/scooter/car /truck/bus is going when they smack into you,if you are going at a slow 10mph
and they are doing 30mph and you hit the road it may hurt a bit and bear in mind a lot of us on the forum dont bounce as well
as we did in our younger days.

Well I have just had another brainwave....

You have heard of "Group Hugs" ?

Why dont we all meet up somewhere central ( ....now theres another topic for 'debate' )
and have a huge "Group Argument"...sorry, debate....great fun, thrash it all out, listen to each
others points of view (LOL) then off home, back on the forum and we could all talk about.....
well, not quite sure what, but Im sure something would occur to us.......in time.......:D

Lynda :)

Hang on a minute , after reading these and similar posts on helmets, it`s the people that don`t want to wear them appear to be doing all the preaching .Those wearing them aren`t smug as suggested , they don`t even say they wear them . Only they know who they are !

Yes, makes a change for us to get in first doesn't it! In fact though if you read closely some have subtly indicated their support, so that's probably representative of the 27% who wear.

P.S. Just checked and 15 posts of the 57 indicate for in some way or other. Since several posts are about snowfall or other subjects, that's well over the 27% worth of having their say. :p

Can we also ban words like:

Battery

Oil

Red Light jumping.

I have already taken the word T???RO out of my vocabulary on here because I know it brings up all those jealous feelings in those who are not lucky enough to have one.

Helmets: When I ride my road bike I wear a helmet. Sometimes I am travelling at 40kph+ and close to other riders, so it makes sense to wear one. On audax rides the rules say you have to wear a helmet.

On little ralaxing rides I often dont wear a helmet. I have no objections to people wearing helmets, or not. I only object to other people trying to force their will on me.
