Purchased the King 10 days ago from Atmosphere Electric Bikes in Bristol, and cycled to and fro work 4 times.

First impressions were that it seemed well put together, and some good quality components.

My normal bike is a Specilized Rockhopper, and my normal fun riding is roads, tracks and byways after accompanying my wife on her horse.

My requirement was for an electric bike to primarily do the 22 mile commute with some moderate hills, and some fun as well.

My first commute was successful, the motor gave a little more assistance than I'd expected, but more surprisingly I found it just as easy to go almost as fast as the Rockhopper on the flat and downhills. This meant I was able to achieve a very good average speed of 15.2 mph (from gps, the bike speedo run 5% fast).

The saddle was the first thing to be changed, far to hard and small (see picture), initially swapped with my other bike saddle, but have now purchased the one you see in the picture from Halfords, it's OK.

There are 5 power settings, but these are speed limits rather than power, ranging from 7, 9, 11, 13, 15.5 approx. I use 3 & 4 on tracks and roads where I want to keep the speed down, and 5 when I'm in a hurry. The steepest hill I've done is about 1 in 7, and I had to pedal quite hard to maintain 8mph.

Initially I had a problem with jumping whilst in top gear, and this turned out to be a faulty chain which was swapped by Atmosphere.

Battery life seems excellent, the first charge lasted 41 miles, and the indicater is showing loads left on the second charge at 88 miles. It should be said because it goes so well under pedal power I am often going faster than 15.5mph so am not using the motor (battery) on the flat.

So overall, at this early stage, I am very impressed. An ideal bike for someone who likes the style and characteristics of a hard tail mountain bike, although because of the weight I have no intentions of using it in mud or rocks.

cheers,
