KU65 vs S06P controller

Since I have converted my brompton to electric using KU65 controller (sensorless mode), I have looking other controller with fancy LCD control panel. Of course, everyone should know sine wave controller is the option.

I managed to swap the ku65 controller to S06P controller last weekend. The first impression is the throttle gives me more gradual increase of the speed. That makes the ride more stable but I lost the instant speed gain from Ku65

Also, I notice the top speed of S06P is less than KU65 but not significant (around 0.5mph difference)

I have not put the wattmeter on to check the current draws when loaded but will be interested to see how this behaves compared with ku65

Do you know why S06P has less top speed considering both controller has the same rating? "High speed controller" wording makes me think they have done something inside KU65...

On the ecrazyman controllers you can program the controller speed in terms of 10 20 30 or 100% for either a 3/4 way switch or max speed.

High speed means high commutation speed for motors that have high speed rotors and large reduction ratios. Nothing to do with bike speed. The difference in speed can come from different commutation timing. The difference you've got isn't significant. You might also find that the current of the KU65 is higher. If you need more torque, add a bit of solder to the shunt.

How have you been able to detect 0.5mph difference in top speed? On my bikes top speed varies every time I go out on them - wind speed and direction, bike battery voltage, how much dinner I've eaten etc

Haha good question. I calculated the average speed of the same journey from past 5 days. Maybe the weather is colder than last week so the average is lower.

Hi Dave,

I have been curious about doing this bit I have told this will mess the bms of the controller. Is that true?

No.
I solder the shunt on just about every controller I have. Even the manufacturers do it.

Just be careful not to drop blobs of solder on the circuit board, and don't be greedy by soldering too far. 25% to 35% of the length of the shunt should give your motor a significant kick. Don't forget that your range will go down a bit, but not as far as you'd think.

Thanks again. Actually, I meant to say Lvc not bms. Is it still the case?

Thanks. Jerry. The main reason I used either ku65 or s06 is the size. I fit the controller inside the case at the stem of my brompton. Ecrazyman controller is slightly bigger which does not fit the controller case.
