Hi ...I'm new to the forum. First build but I've a feeling not my last! I've always liked the old kona full suspension bikes, so I picked up a 2005 dawg. It's pretty mint, only issues are due to lack of use but easy to sort out.
My hope is to make this as light as possible.... I had a hardtail 36V with 625 wh battery (shimano steps m8000). I only used the lowest level, and the majority of the time I ended up with a half full battery..... so 250-300 wh is plenty for the riding I do - trails/ bikepark around Dublin. I don't care much about flat-out speed, just some pedal-assist.
After some research I reckon the bafang bbs01b 36V 250W should do the job. The bike has a 73mm BSA which I think it suitable (i removed the raceface isis srx). I've attached some pictures in case there are any potential problems. The kit is supplied with a 42t chainring (could get a 36T if needed). Any clearance issues there? Will there be any grinding of the frame? Hopefully not, as I might convert the bike back at a later stage and reuse the kit.
My main problem is the battery. When I looked at the bike I thought the triangle was a tad small (17" frame), but the for the condition and price I didn't want to pass it up. The top tube (internally) is 330mm long, height 250mm and 430mm long down tube. For a rectangular battery I have about 230mm x 90mm (or 260mm x 80 mm) to play with. Most frame batteries are 330mm long.
Ozo potentially has the solution ... 240mm x 80mm for €250. Has anyone experience of this battery or ozo in general? I like the stealthy look of it, and only 1.36 kg. I could't select Ireland as a shipping address but I'm hoping they can deliver here.

I'd also consider a battery bag/custom pack. Can one be secured to the frame though? I intend on doing some red/black jump lines if the bike inspires confidence! I think the ozo bottle battery would need additional bracing also for this kind of abuse! And if I can get a battery I'll be changing out that fork for a beefier model.
I have access to a laser cutter, so could make up a box if I can source the battery pack (not keen on making that just yet). But maybe the additional flex of a bag would be beneficial.

250Wh 36V Bottle Battery
This 36V 7Ah 250Wh battery only weight 1.360 Kg. Its "bottle" shape and its low weight are perfect for road electric bikes.
