Hello has anyone heard or have tried to install a custom controller and bigger motor on one of these bikes,I'm just wondering could I change the stock 36v 250 watt battery and motor to a 48v 250 mother and controller.i don't fancy putting a 48v battery in because I'm sure the bike would get fried,so if I update the controller does that mean I could in principle use a 48v battery.
Any input would be appreciated thanks .

The existing (Bafang)motor will probably be ok to overvolt with 48v. Unless you are lucky , I suspect the controller will be 36v (some are dual voltage). So potentially have to change controller / LCD and then you need compatible pas sensor, brake sensors, and throttle if it has one. And a 48v battery ! Does the controller (under the seat ?) have a label on it

Anything is possible if the correct components are used.

C961 display is normally multiple voltage, so you only have to check your controller label. If it says 36v/48v, it's just a case of connecting a 48v battery to the controller. Brakes, PAS, speed sensor, throttle and motor halls are all 5v powered by the controller, so battery voltage doesn't affect them.

Here are the details of the controller and display,I also thought about just swapping out the controller and display, could I replace the stock 36v 15a sine wave controller with another one that could possibly give more speed, any suggestions would be appreciated.even a link to a controller and display set would great.
Thanks in advance

I haven't check the controller as yet but could there be a possibility of just changing the controler and display to more speed if you have any suggestions or even a link to such a set up would be great.i know my stock controller is 36v 15a sine wave .

So the max assist speed will be set to 25 km/h as part of UK / Europe regulations.

Do you know how to get into the advanced menu on the c961 display ?

(Think you turn it on press and hold + and - and then press the middle button 8? times)

The settings that will affect max assist speed are max motor assist speed and / or wheel size

Hub motors have a max rpm and this will limit the speed, changing to another 36v controller won't affect that but changing to 48 v will.

I notice on that spares list that there was a 48v controller (very overpriced) and 48v battery (even more overpriced)

Can you do a photo of your existing controller ?

Wow thanks for the speedy reply ,yes I can get into the settings and advance settings.
I can set speed to 99kmph but of course it only goes 28 max ,I will remove the seat tomorrow and take a photo of the controller and battery.and yes everything is over priced for this bike,I was wondering could I just say insert a 48v battery into the bike .but maybe that's for discussion tomorrow.
Excuses for my bad English.

Your controller is 36v only. To get more speed you will have to buy a new 48v controller together with a new display (they always come paired). Then you will need a 48v battery.
The motor will not be bothered by the increase in voltage so long as the current supplied is not too high.
As your existing controller is 15A, I would suggest a 48v 15A controller. This should give you approximately 30% more speed.

Good luck and I hope you survive the update.

One thing I wondered was if the 48v controller from your knaap accessory list would have all the same connection plugs to display/ pas sensor, brake sensor etc. maybe email them and ask ?

Think your existing c961 display is dual voltage, hopefully that would work too If so might be worth the extortionate price of their 48v controller to make it an easier job. Then buy a third party 48v battery and mounting plate connect that in

Thank you so much for your reply much appreciated, would you by and chance have a link to such a controller and display.
Thanks in advance

If the connections and connector plugs from the knaap 48v controller from your accessory list fits all the electric bits on your bike (including the c961 display), wouldn't it be easier to buy that ? I would email them to check
