Keeping battery healthy

I've recently got a Freego Hawk electric bike and am enjoying using it very much to complete the 7 mile journey to work.

The route has a couple of biggish hills and I notice that the power indicator drops from 4 lights to 2 lights on the display. Is it advisable to top up the battery each day or will I shorten the life of the battery if I do so. However, I'm also keen not to be caught short when out and about if I run out of charge.

All help and advice appreciated! Many thanks.

Top up by all means, lithium batteries are "cycling" types, suited to continuously use and recharge.

Running down to empty every time and fully recharging can shorten life a little.

N.B. Crossed with d8veh's post.

You may simply be seeing "voltage sag" on your display. When under load your battery output voltage will drop.
So your display, which indicates the voltage output from the battery, will show a lower voltage (some lights out) going uphill or when accelerating, than when on the flat (when more lights come back on the display).
We recommend allowing a battery to discharge to 50% between charges as an extension to the basic rule - "keep it topped up".

I recommend that you resist the urge to top it up after every ride to keep the torque high. Wait until you get to 50% of the range of the the bike before topping.

To avoid confusion, if as indicated, your commuting return journey is 14 miles a day, including a couple of "biggish" hills, it easily justifies a daily charge of your 360 Wh battery. That daily journey would account for about half the charge daily, commensurate with the two LEDs left lit.

But if you do any much shorter trips in addition, by all means don't bother with topping up those tiny amounts as Trex and Juicybike indicate.

The closer your battery is to fully charged, the more power you get. Your motor will give approximately 85% power and torque with a half drained battery compared with a fully charged one.

I keep it topped up, even if only a little.
4 years down the road with my Tonaro battery and it seems as good as ever.
