Hi.

I am looking for an electric bike. I am female, mid 50's (sigh) , medium build and 5ft 7" tall.

I am having to give up my regular bike as I have a herniated disc in my neck. So I was thinking of purchasing a Sit Up and Beg bike.

That was until a good friend suggested that an electric bike might be the way to go. I think she might be right. However, my budget wasn't prepared for the cost of an electric bike.

I would use the bike for leisure only but there are a few hills around where I live.

So, I am hoping some kind soul, can suggest a few options for me. I hope I've given enough information as to what I am looking for, which I know is very limited at the moment as I don't know what I'm talking about - Sorry!

My budget, well I was hoping to get something around the £600 mark but I could extend this further if people think that I won't get a good quality bike for this amount.

Many thanks in advance.

you need to up your budget a bit. At the current budget, you can only get a second hand or choose among end of line low quality bikes.

Let's get started, take a look at the £849 Woosh Crusa.

it's relatively lightweight (step through electric bikes weigh around 21kgs-25kgs), good motor, good battery (36V 13AH), completely fitted out for all weather riding, good range: about 40 miles on a full charge.

The lady needs an easier ride/better posture for her neck so sounds like current bike is unsuitable.

Hi and thank you for all your replies. Thanks too Nealh for explaining better than I could why my existing bike is unsuitable.

E-wheels, you did make my laugh!! 25 again. In my head I am. Well sometimes.

Thank you Woosh for suggesting a Woosh bike. It's definitely one I will consider.

I've seen a Raleigh Array E Lowstep Electric Hybrid for a similar price but I really don't know what is considered a good make or not.

So, I guess I am still hoping for other suggestions or confirmation.

Many thanks

SFMW,

It would be helpful to know what area of the UK you live in order to assist you better.

Although FreeGo have gone bust, their bikes are well made and replacement parts are generic and generally available.

Thank you so much for your replies and help Nealh and Eagle.

Those bike suggestions are certainly ones I will take a look at Nealh but I get myself very confused. Which is not difficult nowadays. Still I did ask for suggestions!!

Thank you for your advice too Eagle. I live half way between Banbury and Stratford-upon-Avon.

Thanks for the eBay links I will take a look.

For bike issues later on I would be inclined to deal with a dealer/seller still in business rather then bankrupt stock items, ok if you are practically minded and can repair/replace items once you can identify a fault otherwise look at an independent like Kudos or Woosh for a budget bike < £1k, other bikes may seem good and be cheaper but doubt they will have as good a motor or battery capacity.

Although mail order only Woosh are #1 to go to and have excellent after sales and spares. Delivery and replacement parts if needed are next day usually and always reply to emails, are very prominent on here or you the dog to speak to them direct.

Hi Nealh. Thanks for your reply again.

You are right, I do need to probably get a bike from a company that is still in business, just in case.

Thanks for the recommendations of Kudos or Woosh. I hadn't heard of them, so it's good to know. I will try and find a local stockists, as I really think I need to try them first if I can.

Time to start searching.

Thank you so much.

I love the look of the Kudos Verona!! But I'm just going on the style and colour, which is not very sensible is it?

How does this compare to the Raleigh or the Woosh please?

Thank you!

the Crusa has wider handlebars, 13AH battery against the Verona 11.6AH.
other than these details, the rest is similar.

Thanks for your reply Dewey. That is something for me to consider without a doubt! Although I was hoping for a place nearer to where I live, incase of a problem.

I had a thought overnight (which is very rare)! Would it be OK to list the bike shops local to me here to get people's opinions of their stock that would suit me? I've a feeling though, that is a big ask.

SFMW,
By all means give us a list of your local bike shops and their various makes of ebikes.
You may need to extend the search radius.
Evans Cycles for example has an Electric Bike Superstore at Cheltenham and 48 hour tests are available:
https://www.evanscycles.com/store/cheltenham

https://www.evanscycles.com/help/electric-bike-test-rides

Then again, their ebikes are probably too expensive. Ho, hum.

Also look at post #13 on a similar thread started by Spidercat:
https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/the-search-continues.33942/
I may have got you and Spidercat mixed up.

Thanks for your reply again Eagle.

I've just been looking at my local bike stock. They are all above my price range unfortunately. (Although I have fallen in love with this one https://voltbikes.co.uk/e-bikes/classic/kensington I'll keep dreaming).

Thanks for the tip about Evans Cycle shop. I went in my local one the other day and, well I'm trying to be polite, let's just say they weren't very helpful. However, I didn't know about the superstore in Cheltenham. I've seen this one https://www.evanscycles.com/pulse-zl2-2017-electric-hybrid-bike-EV291432 but sadly it's only in a small.

I think I'll keep watching though.

Thank you!
