Title says it all, I am going to convert one of my bikes and while doing the research i came across the Panda make, they are British and advertise both hub and mid drives but the question is are they just re-sellers or do they actually make their own stuff? would be interested if anyone knows the answer or better still has had any dealings with them. My thinking behind this is, as they are a British company they would have to adhere to our standards and would be easier to communicate with than a Chinese or other foreign company in the case of anything going wrong.

The motors are made by a Chinese company called YOCH I believe. Google YOCH ebike motors and you'll find more info. They do look very similar to the Bafang BBS range. I tried some of them a while back but in my tests they showed up a number of floors in quality compared to the Bafang. Things may have improved now as this was 6 months ago or so?
They do share quite a few internal components by design, but are by no means as established and open source as the Bafang. They are considerably cheaper to buy from factory as a consequence.
Although one might think so from looks, they are not compatible with Bafang displays, controllers, programming cables and so on.
After sales help from YOCH was full of hollow promises, but I think Panda would always see you right.
It's a space to watch in my mind, but in my experience they didn't cut the mustard.

I have had superb service from panda. Including a complete refund for some bits because they made an error with postage. As in they gifted me the parts. Beyond call of duty

And Brighton ebike for that matter. Practically had to force a few quid into his hands for a few random parts

Both very knowledgeable so if they recommend staying away then I'd be inclined to take heed

Sounds like it might be "buy cheap, buy twice" with YOCH

Thanks Guys!! went with Bafang because loads of info and spares are readily available if i need them. They seem to be the biggest selling Chinese mid drive motors so they must have something going for them, not looking for a Roller, a Ford will do.
