I have worked in the car industry for 20 years. I think the car was a great liberator, but now it is a victim of it's own success. Not too happy about the pollution and congestion they cause.
Perhaps cycles and pedelecs are an answer especially in the cities.

You are particularly well blessed in Milton Keynes with miles of well planned, dedicated off-road routes... you can cycle the entire city without actually touching a road!
