This has just been posted on another site. You need to watch it right to the end.

I am not sure if I am convinced but its certainly different!

Excellent. I'm guessing that it works in the same way as state of the art motorcycle 'air-bag' leather suit technology.

Whatever, following last Saturday's accident and subsequent head injury, I for one would be more than happy to wear one.

A non-starter which I see failing on several counts. The last part to expand is the front portion, the most likely part to hit the road first in an over the bars incident. It's likely to have too little resistance to compression to save a forehead and or face impact. If rigid enough, it will merely push backwards on front impact, having no head surrounding band to retain it in place. The hit from the rear by car impact is about the only accident it would be useful for.

Have to agree with flecc - was my first though on seeing it. Useless in a face-hits-pavement situation.

Also it is complex tech - complex tech goes wrong often when you least want it to (ebikers all know this !!)
And finally, the ladies in the video say they dont like helmets becuse "its like wearing a hard mushroom on your head". Doesnt this just shift the issue to your neck ? Looks like wearing a giant, stiff Jammy Dodger round your neck ! Having said that - if it could be in addition to a hard helmet then perhaps it could provide added saftey for those who wanted it

Splendid,

I would be inclined to try one instead of a pair of underpants. When my butt gets a bit sore on a long ride I could 'deploy the bag' and regain instant comfort. I'm sure it would work.

It is a bit like having one of those gas inflated life jackets versus a bouyancy aid with permanent flotation.
You have no idea if it will work until you are in trouble.

Actually, I think it looks like a good development. Given the huge advances in air-bag technology deployment times & looking at the overall shape It looks as if it will offer far more cushioning than the normal hard shell helmet.
