I have a 'house' insurance policy which includes bicycle cover (just theft I assume). I tried today to tell the insurer about the e-bike conversion but they didn't seem to know what I was talking about.
Has anyone else insured an e-bike conversion?

I think most will do it for you, but I just have my bike on my home insurance cuss most of them will want a look on your bike if you want cover away from the home and I don't think it's worth the extra cost of about £150 a year.
They won't pay out if someone just takes your bike off you,

im with HomeProtect and have my bike covered home and away, it didnt add much to my premium at all but then again my bike is Krieger is only a £900 cycle unlike some of the more premium bikes available.

I'm with LV and if you add bike insurance on your home policy this will add upto 5k cover on each bike you have.

My concern is that, if the bike was nicked and I made a claim on the house policy, would it be honoured in the case of a 'modified' bike? My base bike is a Marin Eldridge Grade which cost around £1600 (admittedly a few years ago). Add another £700 to that for the conversion kit and that adds up to a sizeable wedge of dosh if I had to replace it like for like. I suspect I need a policy which is based on a specific valuation - if these exist. I probably just need to do some ringing around.

homeprotect just told me as long as have receipt/proof of cost then that will be fine, so if you have proof of the bikes cost you should be fine.
