Hello,

I'm hoping someone might be able to offer some advice in insuring my JOBO DCQ300K Electric 3 wheeler. I've spent weeks going from place to place, only to be told no after spending half an hour going through it with brokers.

The vehicle was bought with a registration and so even though I don't need to pay tax for it, I am pretty sure I will need it to be insured when it goes on the public road. Its got handlebars and only goes up to 15kph.

Any suggestions or points in the right direction would be much appreciated as I am almost at the point of no return with this!

Is it this one?

If so its 1000 watt motor means it will have to be insured as an L1e-A motor vehicle, a pity. If it had a 250 watt rating it wouldn't need to be insured or registered.

I'm sorry i don't have a recommendation for an insurer, hopefully someone else will have.

That's why TfL do not want them on London roads and warn/seize them for no insurance
Might be a specialst broker out there it will need hire and reward cover but do not know who
probably a risk for an underwriter as if you carry passengers they could claim millions in personal injury

Is it going to be used for cab work Alibah, or just for private travel with no charge to passenger friends?

Hello, no there is no charge for travel. It is just for picking up customers from the village and taking them up the hill to our premises so no exchange of money

Thanks for the information Alibah. It will definitely need insurance as you suspected, particularly as there is a commercial aspect to the usage.

For insurance I'd advise you seek a Lloyds Insurance Broker to quote for you. If you enter Lloyds Insurance Brokers into Google you'll get a selection of the large groups there. Approach one of them and although they may be too big to quote for your small requirement, their knowledge of Lloyds of London will be likely to enable them to direct you to an individual broker syndicate in the vehicle insurance sector. That's who you need for this special case.
