Has anyone bought one of these Alien TITAN Electric Sports Bicycle Bike e-bike 21 Sp'd on eBay, also, Bikes, Cycling, Sporting Goods (end time 19-Feb-08 16:13:19 GMT)
from 'the bay'.
They seem to be selling in small numbers, but are getting good feedback and are a reasonable price. A bit oriental kit bike looking, which is probalby what they are, but certainly not the tackiest.
The Synergie Avanti sems to have the same components in a different frame and another coincidence both Alien and Synergie are coming from small towns in Scotland less than 20 miles apart.

John

P.S. vist Kinross and beautiful Loch Leven, you won't be disappointed:)

i bought a "lapland" off him, one of them folders with a 36 volt battery encased in the back wheel where the hub is on some, motor in front wheel, he accidentlay sent wrong one so sent another, sent one that didnt work when got to me so that went back too...the bike was a crappy design but cheap...he told me he had bought a container load from china, sounded a genuine guy and pleasant to deal with, he has since moved onto these "alien" ones which do look great and great feedback, he also had great feedback from his "lapland" ones he sold...just i got a duff en....but the alien ones have 24 volt battery pack..my one experience of that was my synergy folder...and thats the reason im now on a 36 volt Quando..great bike it was but no "balls"...however a full size bike with gears probably is different altogether...but would not be bothered about buying from him again as genuine guy..unlike the duff resonse i had from synergy up there.."pop in and see bob in the workshop"....

Nice looking bike but peak motor power is just 240 watts,if the battery or controller or something went wrong could they be replaced.

I don't understand why most ebike sellers don't give any information about peak power output - do they think it doesn't matter & only the top speed is important?

Would people buy other motor vehicles without knowing if it would have enough power to get them up a hill?! Ebikes are not cheap either, its not as if you can just buy one & 'try it'.

I have done exactly that in the past Stuart. I bought a Giant Lafree about 8 months ago knowing absolutely nothing about e-bikes or what they were really about.
Then, one day I accidentally found the forum and since that day and several bikes later, I still know very little:eek:

I think many sellers actually know very little about what they are selling, not helped by a lack of information from the manufacturers.

Of those that do have more knowledge I'd still doubt that many understand the relationship between nominal and peak power and then there is the question of quoting a power output that may sound illegal to the majority of potential purchasers.. or even a poorly informed trading standards official!

If that 240 watt peak is true, it's rather gutless. The Powacycle Salisbury and Windsor models are very low powered at 272 watts/303 watts, battery depending, and low geared to compensate so are slow, struggling a bit past 13 mph.

So it seems the Alien bike is a little pointless with such low assistance. The Panasonic motor unit pumps out about the same with a low to moderate ability rider, but drives through the gears and makes better use of it. From a hub motor that power isn't enough.

Thats not your fault John if the information isn't easily available in the first place, like Ian says I'd say the onus is on manufacturers to provide it, not dealers/sellers :). The Lafree is well known and has a highly regarded pedigree, so doesn't need clarification in that respect.

If the voltage & current limit (controller) are given (not difficult), then the peak power input is just the product of the two in watts. The peak power output is the input times the efficiency.
