So that'd be 15% VAT + 4.7% Import = 19.7%?

Hmmm 36V10AH ping is approx £220 + 19.7% = £263

hmmmm
But bear in mind that normal lithium-iron life potential is certainly over 1000 charges and more likely to be 2000 charges or more. That's four times the best length of life for li-ion, so looked at another way, the Ping price is as low as a quarter.

Nobody knows for certain yet just how long these batteries last, but lab tests indicate even 5000 charges are possible.

Hmm so short term pain versus long term gain.... (I work in the City we're not interested in the long term :D ;) )

I've purchased two LiFePO4 batteries from Li Ping earlier this year. No extra duties were applied by Customs and excise on both occasions.

Ping usually marks them as "samples" or something similar. Small consignments rarely attract any interest. The situation is a lot different with purchases from the USA, almost always attracting import duties.

I got my 48v 10 ah ping battery a couple of months ago, and i absolutely love it.
There are some electrical work involved.
shipment was problematic, but it was during the Olympics.
had to pay VAT (25%) but nothing else, it was stopped in customs because of "lacking invoice". so the sample/gift trick didn't work for me, but it was still worth it IMO.

For what it is worth my Ping battery was delivered this morning without attracting any of Alistair Darling's attention. Took 10 days which given the time of year does not seem too bad.

As luck would have it my wheel build was also completed today so I am good to go with my build :)

I have read about several members of the German Pedelec forum who have had to pay quite a lot more on top of their battery purchases from China... question of (bad) luck I guess.

On my recent purchase of a Ping battery I paid no Import or any other duty.

Ping described the package as a sample worth $40.

Best to buy direct using Paypal than use EBay as the price is different.

In my experience Ping is a trustworthy seller.
