Hi...I'm buying a second hand wisper eco with a 36v 8a battery.
It is exactly 6 months old but I thought I had read in the forum that Wisper had not used this battery for some time.

Can you please tell me the story on this ?

thanks....Mike

No story Mike, Wisper still have the 36 volt 8Ah battery as a current item, and it's an option on the current 905eco as you'll see in it's specification here, second item down:

Wisper 905eco

Mike, according to the info I downloaded on the 2008 models last year, the 705 eco had a 24V 8A battery & the 705se had a 36V 9A battery.

The battery Flecc refers to above is the 2009 battery which isn’t compatible with 2008 models. Wisper’s online shop doesn’t include a battery for the 2008 version of the 705. I can’t believe with their commitment to customer support they are leaving 705 riders high and dry so I imagine there has been an error in leaving it out. Worth checking though.

The 36volt 8ah battery for 2008 905eco models is available from the Wisper shop (top right "shop" in Flecc's link) for £315.86. The 36volt 8ah battery for 2009 models is also available £350.53.

Thanks everyone...the bike i'm buying is the 905eco new in February 09.
It is fitted with a 36V 8A battery and a 250w, 36v, 225 rpm brushless motor.

Will this be the 2009 model...if not, what is the difference ?

regards....Mike

Mike,

I am 90% certain that you will be getting the 2008 model.
The 2009 model has a different battery case and connection, and no de-restrict button fitted.
Apart from that I don't think there will be any difference as it was only bought in February, and hopefully has the improved brake levers fitted.
You can upgrade to the 14A battery if you require the extra mileage (and can afford it!).

Some time ago I raised the question about the connection change with Wisper, and David assured me that they have a large stock of the old battery cases, and so will be able to supply batteries for the 2008 spec bikes for years to come.

He said they were also looking into the possibility of creating an upgrade kit to enable older bikes to take advantage of their new batteries.

All in all, I'd say that we're sufficiently 'future proofed'.

FYI, the 2008 model has the plug in power connection on the top left hand side of the battery, and the coaxial type charging port next to it, whereas the 2009 model has an XLR charging point, and (I believe) blade type power connections that contact when the battery is slid into its slot.

This is correct, but don't be misled. I was told by Doug at Wisper that the 2008 battery for the 905 isn't compatible with the 705. (My question had been prompted by hoping to get a wisper 705 with the range of the 905). This is why I say it would best to check with them that they do have batteries for the 705.

But only if Wisper develop the upgrade kit that Straylight refers to.
Wrong.
The 905eco takes the same batteries as the City and Sport. I am able to fit the 8A eco battery in my City and vice versa

Sorry, my mistake. I've been busy investigating the 705 & I assumed the eco Mike was referring to was the 705.

Note to self - don't begin responding to a post late at might and make sure the you read what the post says, not what you think it says...

Shroppielass,

If you go for the 2009 version of the 705se then you can use the 8A or 14A battery.
Forget the 705eco with 24volts. Think big and 36volts.

Go on - you know it makes sense. :)

Hi All

Agree go for the 36v battery every time.

I bought a 905e in August 07 liked it very much and had a then battery life of 25-30 miles. In May 09 Phil at New Milton replaced this for the new 36v 14amp lithium battery (for the new 905se) and put it on my 905e with no problems at all. Wow, the difference, I cycled 58 miles in the New Forest yesterday in the lanes and on the tracks in assist mode and used the additional "help" throttle on a few of the longer hills towards the end of the ride - this was the first time the yellow "low battery" light flickered! Now I am confident that the battery can last for a proper ride - only beginning to give up at the same time as the sore bits!

Hi Shroppielass and Nick

Don't worry about your batteries we will always have them is stock or be able to get hold of them quickly in the unlikely event we don,t.

It is our policy to make sure all components are available for at least six years after a model changes. In reality it will be a lot longer.

Best regards David
