Among the many apparent bargains on offer at ebay, auction due to end soon, is the following, (link attached).

I wouldn't normally draw attention to one of these illegal machines but as it stands, it represents a real bargain on the face of things. Whether there is a reserve in place, I know not but Alien/Synergy, who put together these machines, have some of their own direct sales models on ebay and buying directly from them would cost a lot more than this one as things stand at the moment.

A fair point DJH.....a cheap point too! I thought it worth a mention simply because there are some forum readers who actually buy these illegal machines and this one may be cheaper than one from Alien direct and if they really, really must have one of these beasts, why pay top dollar?

I thought the act of using a non compliant ebike on a public highway was illegal? As far as I was aware there is no legislation banning the owning of such a bike or using it legally on private property.

You could add a cycle analyst and set the power and speed limits appropriately to make it legal on the road though couldn't you?

And if you really want to be illegal ...
You have to get right down the end of the ad for 'legal' bit.
It was in fact browsing ebay and coming across one of these petrol engines that got me into ebikes almost three years ago. I searched on them found this forum and ended up getting my first ebike kit instead :D

While I can see someone riding an Alien illegally , the 80 cc bolt-on kit would really cause someone grief . The emphasis on increased diameter bolts everywhere plus the free Tool Kit seems to prepare you for a big engine blow-up .That`s the easy bit , can you imagine riding quietly to work on it and the task of insuring and taxing it would be insurmountable . The blurb is so comprehensive , the only thing left out is how many have been crushed by the Authorities .
If you want to be legal and mobile for not much money , look at the WK Bikes GO50 Scooter Moped at £799 . I sat on one at the NEC last December and it was roomy and with a four-stroke engine you would get your 110 mpg .
