Hi Guys ... bought myself a Torque Wrench set - Effetto Giustaforza II Ratchet Torque Wrench - Pro and Bits ... brilliant ... (got all the gear ... no idea!)

The problem is that I've lost the little ball bearing (?) out of the widget in the the top RH corner of following picture ... its a socket that connects the hex sockets to the wrench. Of course, I now need to replace the widget! What is it called? How do I ensure that I am ordering the right item? Thanks in anticipation.

Because that is peculiar to the wrench design, I doubt there is a recognised name for this part. I'd just call it a "tools to wrench connector piece" which should be self-explanatory to them.

Or send them this photo:

Thanks flecc! I just knew that you would come to my rescue, but didn't want to presume.

Thanks again.

It looks like a standard 1/4" drive hex bit adaptor to me. The ratchet torque wrench looks funny because it's a top down view. To be honest, the balls always fall out of these bits because the spring steel clip that holds them in are never up to the job. I have a couple like that myself at work.

You can still use it, it's just the bit won't be a tight fit in the adaptor with the ball missing, but still usable. Or if you want to buy a new one shouldn't be very dear from a local tool store. Or maybe cheaper to buy a cheap set from a pound shop or somewhere to rob the bit adaptor out of.

But it's a "1/4" drive hex bit adaptor" you need.

Here's the sort of thing, I'm not sure if you can post eBay links, but this is just a search result, not a single item. You can choose which. They're all Teng Tools which is a good brand, the first in the list is the one I'd go for, although the description doesn't match the photo and the info in the panel further down the page, as the title says 5 inch, which it obviously isn't.

These more expensive ones tend to have a magnet in the bottom to hold the bit in, rather than the ball and spring clip on the cheaper ones, so no ball to lose....certainly looks that type in the first image.

EDIT:

Found a review of it here with close up shots of it, definately looks 1/4" drive. I must say, it's rather expensive isn't it, we don't even pay that much for tools we're using all the time at work, seems a bit overkill for a bike, any reasonable kit would do, Aldi is doing a nice 42 piece 1/4" drive kit this week, that's ideal for bikes, although not a torque wrench. Which to be honest you don't really need, just a gentle 'nip' does most things, 16Nm (the max torque of that wrench) isn't very tight anyway.
