I am a typical society loves to hate 39yr old male. 5ft 11in 16st who likes his ciggarets and alcohol. So this yr i plan to change my lifestyle to become more healthy and active.

Since the turn of the year i rearly drink alcohol changed my diet and lost 3.5st now i am looking to become more active.

I am alergic to the cold and come out in painful hives so i have purchased a 2nd hand treadmill for the late autum to early spring months

For the late spring to early autumn i thought some nice bike rides would be in order. So i purchased a 2nd hand mountain bike... went out for a ride was not out 15mins and came home "bugger that" i am just not fit enough yet for it.

So i thought a electric bike will help regain that fitness but by hells teeth are they expensive. So the hunt was on for a cheap(ish) ebike i read about the ancheer and it seemed an ok buy for the price even though it seems to get one or two bad reviews. Thats when i came across the new 2018 ancheer and although i could find only 1 very brief owner review i thought any problems or weaknesses with the old ancheer may have been sorted with this model (you would think so wouldnt you) so i have took a gamble it comes in the next 7 to 10 days

It looks OK. It's very similar to the Halfords Carrera Vulcan E, that is £850, though can be a lot cheaper with discounts. It gives you the advantage of local support if anything goes wrong. Everything on both those bikes is standard Chinese stuff, so dead easy to fix yourself if anything goes wrong, but it's all pretty reliable. I guess the first thing to go will be the battery in a year or two, but plenty of cheap replacements on Aliexpress and elsewhere.

Thanks. It has not been easy. Yeah i bought a 2nd hand mtb but its a long way harder to peddel as an adult than when i was a kid but i hope that eventually by using the ebike it will build my fitness to a point where i will be comfortable using both

I also looked into a 2nd hand ebike but for the prices a new ancheer with 2yr warrenty seemed a better option

I got it off amazon just for added protection really though ancheers website had it 100 quid cheaper.. and it was out of stock

I hope the 8ah battery has enuff juice in it and i am wondering if i need to replace the battery if it has to be like 4 like i.e lg 36v 8ah or if i can put another make with a lager capacity on

My guess is that now you are discovering the delights of ebiking you won't go back to sweat powered ones

Battery is a little smaller than most, but you will be able to replace it with any 36v battery. Looking at the bike, I think the controller(brain) may be in the battery case, but this is not a huge problem and you can ask for advise here if you have to replace the battery at some point in the future. Get out and enjoy the sunshine and the joy of ebiking

Lol yeah maybe. i am sure you can get/keep fit on a ebike just as well just probably more fun. May end up giving my wife my muddy fox mtb and watch her sweat.

Thats great, thanks for the information and the offer of continued advice i especially like the last bit of advice regarding the sunshine

being alergic to the cold i dont get out much in the winter but what is weird my best mate is alergic to the sun poor bugger swells up like a balloon has to stay in the shade

More importantly, don't expect any ebike to get you very fit very quickly.

The gentle exercise is all good, but the main benefit will be you will hopefully enjoy getting out into the countryside and riding.

You've done a good job on the weight loss and could probably teach one or two of us something about that.

But don't for goodness sake think a few miles on the ebike will mean you can have a scoop of drink and a pizza.

No i wont. I am trying to change my lifestyle on a permanant basis. Once you start to diet you realise how little the body needs to sustain itself and with such rich food on the market it is so so easy to consume too many calories and how much exersize it takes to burn just a few calories its better to not consume too many in the first place. I have since realised that its not that i am overweight because i over eat but rather i have been eating the wrong things.

Update: just been informed my bike has been dispatched and given a tracking number. The package is coming from the czech republic so it looks as if ancheer have a european werehouse which should make for better delivery times. The courier is dhl i dont recall having them deliver to me before so it will be interesting to see how fast/slow it arrives

I bought an one a couple of months ago, only covered around 100 miles so I can't comment on long term reliability. All the components are low end quality but functional. I don't think you'll be disappointed, I paid £415 from an Ebay seller based in Germany and would buy another one without thinking twice.

I have similarly been going through a life style change (not least because of being diagnosed diabetic a few months ago - lost three stone since then through change of lifestyle and had already lost over six stone in the preceding two years through a diet change).

Whilst I go to the gym semi-regularly, for gentle (mostly) exercise, I don't too much out and about (especially during the winter - not allergic to the cold like the OP, but I am a serious asthmatic and breathing cold damp air is less than ideal although asthma condition has got better with weight loss).

I have a decent basic hybrid bike (a Trek) but do not use it much despite enjoying riding because of a hill that is a bit too steep close to the house that I need to climb before getting to the fun bit.

Just ordered an ebike from a well established (recently relocated to nice shiny new larger premises) local specialist cycling shop that stock only a small range of ebikes (from Saracen, Orbea, and Ridgeback) but know them (and traditional cycles and cycling) well.

(There is a larger seller of ebikes, but not regular cycles, even closer that have a wider range but don't seem to know much about cycling - go on about being bosch trained, but not trained in bicycle maintenance/adjustment. They have a lot of the Scott and sister company models, as well as GoCycles, Eskuta, FreeGo, BadBike, Juicy, etc.)

From the specialist cycle shop, I've ordered an Orbea Karam and the shop are throwing in some modifications for me including lights, rack, mudguards, locks, free serving (first two), and as many adjustments/changes (seat, handlebars, etc) as I need until I am completely happy. Hope fully will get it in next week or so and shall initially be using it to commute to work daily, which is only a couple of miles away (but that steep hill makes it impractical to cycle there at the moment in light of lack of showers at work). I know that this is a relatively low end ebike with modest transmission and motor, but it should fit my initial needs well.
