I have a Raleigh Motus 400 step through with an Active Line motor driving a 7 gear Nexus hub. I find that even using full power and bottom gear, with as high a cadence as age and infirmity (74/COPD) will allow, I cannot get to the top of the 20% hills that are all too prevalent in Devon/Cornwall without walking. Thank the Gods for "push and walk".

Would a nexus 8 gear help (being blessed with 10 large toes for fingers, the idea of dealing with a derailier cassette gives me the shivers), or has anyone any other suggestions for an alternative set up.

The best way is to change the rear sprocket on the back wheel for a larger one ,more teeth will make hill climbing easier but you will loose out on top speed , its also not to hard to do or expensive

Yes, try a bigger sprocket on the rear wheel. They are about £10 and lots of “how to” clips on YouTube. I live in Exmoor with lots of 20% hills! I changed the front hub to a mid motor bbs01. A 46t chain ring and 20t sprocket an an Alfine 8 just about gets me up them.!
