How to make a 15mph+ electric bike road legal?

Hi all,

I've been riding an electric bike for the last few months and been extremely happy. My only annoyance is not being able to go faster than 15mph unassisted. I was reading some reviews on the
Kalkhoff Pro Connect S10 and noticed it can get to 25mph with assist. I appreciate this is not road legal but I was wondering how you would go about making it road legal in the UK? What exactly would you need to do? Has anyone done it?

Thanks

John

Doesn't the 50 Cycles site say you have to register it as an e moped? And plate it, wear a helmet and get it insured.

JohnMc.....I am probably going to open old wounds with 50 cycles and this subject has been flogged to death in the past on this site.
I wont mention just the Kalkhoff because many other of the German suppliers now have S class bikes, capable of 25 mph but there is no realistic way of making them legal here as bicycles-you pays your money, ride around fast and make sure you dont hit anything or more importantly anybody.
I think someone recently made a 30 mph legal e-bike(effectively an e-moped),it was featured here but the mods necessary to get it though SVA would make you run off and buy a proper e-moped with legal type approval.
Hope that helps

If you check the classifieds, Alex has a Pro Connect for sale. It's the normal one, but I think you'll find that it does what you want. Send him a message, and he'll explain.
