I would like to change to a large single chainset cog of about 53T, and currently I have a very nice Shimano hollowtech deore XT 4-arm crankset, but all the larger racing cogs are 5-arm. how much will I need to change, even the excellent hollow bottom bracket? can I just get an adapter of some kind for 4-5 arm cogs? can I just drill some different holes in an fsa cog disc? if I fit 1 disc rather than 3 would there be a problem with the width?
Thanks!

Hi Giguana

Have a word with specialist cycle engineers Highpath Engineering, who have an amazing range of chainrings in stock and also make them to order. Chris there may have suggestions or a ready solution for you, worth a phone call:

hey thank you, I was hoping it would be possible to change around with a regular chain set, I will see what they say, thanks!

I just found a 54t chain ring with 4 bolts, and I had to find out all about bike standards to determine that it is not compatible with my 4 bolts. IG and HG chain types and cogs are compatible but the BCD bolt Circle diameter is different-104 and 110 for the different chain rings! arg.
